Changing when your temperature sensor is active can sometimes help. For instance, if you live in a warm climate and the sensor is in a bedroom with many large windows, it may be better to use your thermostat’s built-in sensors during the day to adjust cooling and use the sensor in the bedroom during the evening when the sun is down.

For accurate results, position the sensor 5 cm (2 in) from the object. Accuracy may vary and depends on: Proximity to higher or lower limits of the temperature range. Material selection. Size of the object. Difference in temperature between the sensor and the object.

Nest Temperature Sensors are battery-powered and work even if your home's Wi-Fi goes out. The temperature sensor talks directly to your Nest thermostat over Bluetooth so it doesn't need Wi-Fi. If your temperature sensor fails to report data for more than 10 minutes, your thermostat defaults to its built-in temperature sensors.

The Nest Temperature Sensor wirelessly connects to your thermostat. After you connect your temperature sensor to your thermostat with the Nest app, you can set a schedule for it. While the sensor is scheduled to be active, your thermostat will use the sensor’s temperature instead of its own internal temperature sensors.

If the wrong sensor is active, you can manually switch active sensors or create a sensor schedule so your thermostat will heat the room to the current target temperature. Manually adjust the current target temperature. Someone else may have manually turned the temperature up or down. Check your sensor placement.

Skin temperature is the temperature on the skin's surface. It typically varies more than your body temperature, since warming up or cooling down the skin is one way the body regulates itself and keeps body temperature stable. Some Fitbit devices use a sensor to estimate your baseline skin temperature, based on up to 30 days of data.

When no Temperature Sensor is selected, it defaults to use its internal sensor. Add sensors to your schedule so your thermostat knows when to use it. For example, you might want your thermostat to use a Temperature Sensor in your living room during the day and a Temperature Sensor in your bedroom while you sleep. Open the Google Home app
